It appeared that the father of a friend's friend did not approve of their mutual caring for each other, so the father sent out a powerful spell to get rid of all friends of his son. In his mind he believes that his son would be rescued from the mess as long as the enabling friends and the bad influences leave his precious son alone. This father is a caretaker of a strong temple in the south of Taiwan. Obviously the spell he did was so powerful that some friends of mine were severely bothered. One has lost sleep for several nights and I believe it was not any better for others.
Unfortunately I was included in the circle of friends of his son. I went home for a couple of days and then came back for the weekend. I got a bad cold last Saturday evening, but it felt like a severe flu for me. The weird part of it was that it went away over one night, and the next day, according to the doctors, I got no flu at all. I believe that I was attacked by the spell that night. From one friend of mine in the know, it is not surprising that the father has no intention of withdrawing or holding back his spells toward those whom he does not approve for his son. He is going all the way out for getting his way or the highway.
Therefore I am trying to find a method to resolve the matter. I have chanted the 25th section of the Lotus Sutra 7 times to ask Quan Yin's blessing for my friends. That is the only way I know how. The father probably wants to push everyone to stay away from his son, so the kid can be all by himself and thus be lead to much "simpler" lifestyle. If the son's friends of support have to step away, the son might have to be told what his father decides to do and why nobody can become his friend at this moment of time. The revelation of such fact alone could break the trust between the father and his son, and that is the reason why every friend is holding back this information from the young man.
The ironic part is that the father can not push the son's friends away without revealing the fact that he is the man behind it. He is so much into driving his son's friends away for good that he is going to hurt his bond with his own son to pay the price. A sense has come to me that we will have to wait until the Chinese New Year to find some better way to deal with the matter, but that means we can only stay on the receiving side of the father's anger until then. I do not know how long we can keep holding it together to defend the spell attacks sent by the angry father.
Praying to Quan Yin to send us some solution of this matter seems to be the only thing I can do right now. It is surely a serious test of my faith in Buddhism...
